Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Fast NHS-Approved UTI Treatment – No GP Appointment Required

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common condition that can cause pain, discomfort, and the frequent urge to urinate. If left untreated, it can worsen or lead to complications like kidney infections. Fortunately, you no longer need to visit your GP to get help.

With the Pharmacy First service, Crosshills Delivery Pharmacy offers quick and confidential online consultations for UTIs. Our trained pharmacists can assess your symptoms and, where appropriate, supply prescription-only antibiotics — with fast, discreet delivery to your door.

What Is Pharmacy First?

Pharmacy First is a new NHS service that allows pharmacists to treat common conditions like UTIs — without the need for a GP appointment.

Here’s how it works at Crosshills Delivery Pharmacy:

  • Book an online consultation from your mobile or computer

  • Speak to a qualified UK pharmacist virtually

  • Receive NHS-approved advice and treatment

  • Get antibiotics delivered discreetly, if suitable

  • No charge for eligible NHS patients

It’s fast, safe, and saves you the wait for a GP appointment.

What Is a UTI?

A urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria enter the urinary system — including the bladder, urethra, or kidneys. UTIs are especially common in women but can affect anyone.

Most UTIs are bladder infections (cystitis), which are uncomfortable but treatable with short courses of antibiotics.

Symptoms of a UTI

You may have a UTI if you experience:

  • A burning or stinging sensation when urinating

  • Needing to urinate more often, especially at night

  • Passing small amounts of urine frequently

  • Cloudy, strong-smelling, or blood-tinged urine

  • Lower abdominal pain or pressure

  • Feeling generally unwell or tired

If left untreated, a UTI can sometimes spread to the kidneys and cause more serious symptoms such as fever, back pain, or nausea.

What Causes UTIs?

UTIs are typically caused by bacteria (usually E. coli) entering the urethra. Risk factors include:

  • Being female (shorter urethra makes infection more likely)

  • Sexual activity

  • Menopause

  • Poor hygiene or wiping back to front

  • Holding in urine for long periods

  • Certain health conditions like diabetes

Our pharmacist will assess your symptoms and risk factors during your consultation.

How We Can Help

At Crosshills Delivery Pharmacy, you can now access NHS-approved UTI treatment online. Our virtual Pharmacy First service allows you to:

  • Book a virtual consultation

  • Get your symptoms assessed by a trained pharmacist

  • Receive a prescription for antibiotics, if appropriate

  • Have medication delivered discreetly to your address

  • Be referred to a GP if your symptoms require further investigation

This service is available quickly and easily — all from the comfort of your home.

Do I Always Need Antibiotics for a UTI?

Some mild UTIs can resolve on their own with increased fluid intake and rest, but many require antibiotics — especially when symptoms are moderate to severe. Our pharmacists can supply treatment where needed, typically for uncomplicated UTIs in women aged 16–64.

If your symptoms suggest a more complex infection or if you don’t respond to treatment, we’ll refer you to a GP for further care.

When to Seek Urgent Medical Help

You should seek urgent medical attention if you experience:

  • Fever, chills, or shivering

  • Pain in your side or lower back

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Confusion or agitation (especially in older adults)

  • Symptoms that worsen or do not improve with treatment

Our pharmacists will guide you if a referral is needed.
