Chaperone Policy

Chaperone Policy

At Crosshills Delivery Pharmacy, we are committed to ensuring that all private consultations are conducted in a safe, respectful, and professional environment. Patients should always feel comfortable and confident during any interaction with our pharmacists or clinicians. This Chaperone Policy sets out how we provide support during consultations and the process for requesting a chaperone.

Purpose of a Chaperone

A chaperone is a trained member of our pharmacy team who may be present during certain consultations. The primary role of a chaperone is to provide reassurance and emotional support to the patient throughout the appointment. In addition, a chaperone helps maintain professional standards by acting as an impartial observer, ensuring that clinical best practice is followed and that the dignity of the patient is preserved at all times.

When a Chaperone May Be Offered

Chaperones are available for all private consultations, including:

  • Weight loss consultations
  • Travel health assessments
  • Any service where a patient feels more comfortable with another person present

A chaperone may also be present if the pharmacist or clinician believes it is appropriate for the safety and comfort of both the patient and the healthcare professional.

Chaperone Responsibilities

When a chaperone is present, their role is to remain with the patient during the consultation, providing reassurance and helping to explain any parts of the process if needed. Chaperones are fully trained members of staff who understand their responsibilities and are required to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. They are present solely to support the patient and observe the conduct of the consultation, leaving only once it is complete.

Documentation

Whenever a chaperone is in attendance, their name and role will be recorded in the consultation notes. If any concerns or incidents arise during the consultation, these will be documented and handled according to our internal reporting procedures to ensure that they are investigated thoroughly and fairly.

Complaints or Concerns

Patients who have concerns about the conduct of a chaperone or wish to make a complaint can do so via our Complaints Procedure. We take all feedback seriously and will handle any issues confidentially, ensuring that your future care is not affected.
